Women in P-O-P Nets $90,000 for Y-ME

The 12th Annual Women in P-O-P Benefit to Fight Breast Cancer raised $90,000 for the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization, the In-Store Marketing Institute has announced.

As the P-O-P industry's only charitable event, the benefit has netted nearly $1.3 million over the last 12 years to help thousands of women and their families. This year's donation will aid Y-ME's mission to provide information, empowerment and peer support to ensure that no one faces breast cancer alone.

The check was presented to Karen Christensen Araujo, vice president of marketing & communications for Y-ME, on Sept. 27 at the "Awesome '80s Attack Against Breast Cancer" gala, which capped off this year's In-Store Marketing Expo. Making the presentation were the 2007 Event Co-Chairs:

  • Mary Westerhaus, Director, In-Store Marketing, ConAgra Foods
  • Danell Loftin, Lead Visual Merchandising Manager, Microsoft Corp.
  • Angie Knight, Director, Marketing Services, Russell Corp.
  • Heidi Shouder, Marketing Manager, Cormark
  • Cindy Parker Euscher, Vice President, Sales Services, Harbor Industries
  • Carine Krull, Sales Executive, Wetzel Brothers
Christensen Araujo expressed her sincere gratitude to the volunteers and contributors who support the benefit year after year. "With nearly 180,000 women in the United States expected to be diagnosed with breast cancer this year alone, our free-of-charge programs and services are needed now more than ever. Because of the generosity of donors such as Women in P-O-P, Y-ME can continue to provide essential programs and services to anyone touched by breast cancer," she said.

The benefit took place at the close of the In-Store Marketing Expo, held at McCormick Place in Chicago. Women and men representing consumer packaged goods companies and leading retailers hosted the evening. More than 400 guests joined together to celebrate and support this worthy cause.
